PLOAW Week 12

This week's challenge was to make a page about a loved one, and what is special about them.

For a while now I've been thinking of doing a page about all 4 of my grandparents, and what I remember most about them. Silly, seemingly insignificant things, such as the candy they ate or the flowers they liked, but that were typical for them.

It's a very simple page: just some patterned craft paper, black-and-white portraits, letter stickers, a journaling stamp and handwritten journaling (that isn't even completely straight despite using the stamp...). Nonetheless, I really like how this turned out. It makes me a bit sentimental... ;-)

PLAOW Week 11 | LOAD 212 Day 20 [revisited]

It is an unwritten rule in scrapbooking that you should only use a photo once. How else will you get through your stacks and stacks of to-scrapbook photos?

I've set aside this 'rule' a long time ago, as well as the 'rule' that you should scrapbook chronologically.
This change of view on my part has been greatly influenced by scrapbooking celebs Stacy JulianAli Edwards and Cathy Zielske.

This week's PLOAW challenge was to break the rules and use at least one photo that you already used on another layout. I combined it with the LOAD212 prompt for day 20, which was to make a page about fashion (past or present).

Here's my page, about a favorite pair of pants that I've had since 2005 and that have travelled the world with me over the years:

And here's the proof that I used several pictures before: 4 LO's, made between 2007 and 2012:

PLOAW Week 9

The challenge for week 9 was to step out of your comfort zone and play around with supplies that you rarely use.

After I got back from Israel last month, I realised that it's very difficult nowadays to buy Israeli/Jewish themed scrapbook supplies: most of the companies that used to sell it are no longer in business, it seems.
So I decided to make my background paper and enlisted the help of my scrapbook buddy A's mandala making skills to create Star of David templates that I could use to spray mist some cardstock.

Here's the result:

See those large blue title letters? They're from a 2004 (!) Club Scrap kit.
So YAY for using ancient scrapbook supplies! ;-)

Awesome idea: include a video on your scrapbook page!

I don't know about all you other scrapbookers out there, but sometimes I feel like photos alone simply aren't enough, and I wish I could include a video on my page. But that's just silly and impossible, right? Right??

WRONG!

I came across this video on YouTube that offers a perfect solution to include a video on your page using a QR code and your smart phone:

[fast forward to approx. 7.50mins]

In short:
1) upload your video to YouTube, Vimeo or a similar website.
2) convert the URL of the video to a QR code using an online converter service.
3) copy and print the QR code, and include it on your page.
4) when you want to watch/show the video, scan the code with an app on your smart phone to play the video.

PLOAW Week 8 | LOAD 212 Day 18 [revisited]

The PLOAW challenge for week 8 was to make a page about a difficult topic, as opposed to all the joyous occassions that normally star on our pages.

The prompt for day 18 of LOAD212, that I initially missed, was to make a page about a birthday (whether yours or someone else's)

Here's my page:

My grandfather and I shared the same birthday, but since he died last year, we won't be celebrating it together anymore.
